In July 2019, what was supposed to be an exciting day turned out to be one we would never forget. I was going in for my first prenatal appointment, super excited because I was told I would have difficulty conceiving because of PCOS, so being pregnant for a second time was a blessing. As I’m getting the ultrasound, the nurse doesn’t say much. Trying to break the awkwardness, I ask her if it’s twins lol. She says no it’s not twins, but I’m afraid I’m not seeing a heartbeat. I immediately jumped up, completely confused. She tries to calm me and goes to get my doctor for a second opinion. She comes in, does a few tests and confirms there’s no heartbeat. I sat in her office, crying, unable to speak. I remember her telling me my options and responding with, “whatever is the fastest and as soon as you can do it.” After thinking about it, I canceled my appointment for the procedure because I needed a second opinion. I was in denial that what she was saying was true but I was also praying for a miracle. Went to one doctor, they wouldn’t treat me. Went to another doctor and they confirmed it. After that I scheduled the appointment for the procedure and had it done. During both of those visits, I encountered some beautiful nurses that admired my strength. One who had just returned to work after experiencing her own miscarriage, and the other who had one as well. This made me realize my reality wasn’t just fine, but that of many others as well.
Fast Forward to October 2020. I was finally getting back to myself. I had been working out and running became my escape. While trying to figure out what to do for my birthday it hit me, why not host a 5K honoring Baby Tabb. I didn’t think I had enough time to put it together, but I did it. I hosted a 1 mile walk on November 7, 2020 honoring babies who left us too soon. We had a great turnout and even had people participate virtually in 3 different states. I received so much feedback from people encouraging me but also sharing their experience that I wanted to make it an annual thing and bring more awareness to miscarriage and infant loss. It’s not talked about often and so because it is so common I wanted to create a space for families to share their stories, create community, and provide healing. Not just for mom’s, but the entire family. After a brief conversation with a coworker, the connection was made to start the nonprofit and now we are here!
